Eaton Vale Scout and Guide Activity Centre have many links which have helped us get to where we are now, and they continue to help us grow. As well as our links to our Qualification providers, such as British Canoeing and Archery GB, we have many more links close to home – only a few steps away in fact.
The Scouts have a long history with Eaton Vale Activity Centre. Scouting is a movement that aims to support young people in their physical, mental and spiritual development, with a strong focus on the outdoors and survival skills. The Norfolk County Office for Scouting is based on site at Eaton Vale, and on top of this our board of Trustees features many members of Scouting. With many members of Scouting visiting on a regular basis, a large proportion of our customers are within Scouting, as well as a large proportion of our staff.
Girl Guiding is the sister organisation to the Scouts, created by Agnes Baden-Powell (the sister of Robert Baden-Powell, creator of the Scouts). Girl Guides take on adventurous activities, such as climbing, canoeing, sailing and orienteering, hence why so many of our customers are part of the Girl Guiding Movement. We frequently accommodate Girl Guides with their camps, activities and events. The Norfolk County Office for the Girl Guides is located on site, with also many of our Trustees being active members of the Girl Guiding Movement.
City College Norwich
A selection of the training carried out for our staff members is ran through City College Norwich. We have colleagues participating in a wide range of courses, such as Management and Marketing.
Our biggest link with City College Norwich however is the Outdoor Adventure course. The majority of our instructors have come from this course, where they learnt everything they need to know about being a good instructor. This course runs for 2 years, and is mostly based at Eaton Vale Activity Centre. After completing this course, each student is awarded a BTEC Level 3 qualification in Outdoor Adventure. Throughout their time studying this course, they will also have earned themselves a large variety of instructor-based qualifications. By being based on site, the students are able to experience the outdoor industry first hand, as well as practise and perfect their skills as a fully fledged instructor.
